Chess

Chess Club meets once a week after school for most of the school year. Some of the students learned to play for the first time while our more experienced players received training.

In the 2010-2011 school year we were able to attend two tournaments for 3-8th grade. Half of our CCA students won medals. At the Eswood tournament, William Plant got 1st place in 5th -6thgrade and Jonathan Gavin placed 3rd. Salvador Arguello placed 2nd in 7th-8th grade. At the Kings tournament, Jonathan Gavin and Salvador Arguello both took 1st in their divisions and Jake Bilyeu placed 3rd.

It was a pretty exciting year for us and we’re looking forward to next year. We hope to get even more participation in 2011-2012 as we plan to incorporate a rating system and more one-on-one training.
