Center for Career Advancement Teaches Students To Be Mission Minded in Their Work

Posted on: March 30th, 2017 by Admin

Cornerstone Cornerstone Christian Academy hosted our third annual Center for Career Advancement event for junior high and high school students on the morning of Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Cornerstone’s Center for Career Advancement is an event where students learn from professionals in our community about being career minded and successful in their work. This year’s event focused on the theme of what it means to be a mission-minded Christian in the workplace.

Mrs. Roberta Jean Geosling, NIU Doctoral student and graduate teaching assistant, talks to Cornerstone students about living out the Christian faith in one’s workplace.

Cornerstone welcomed four Christian professionals who talked to the students about different aspects of how they personally live out their faith in their workplace. Kyle Dorf, Cornerstone alumnus (2010), is now a Civil Engineer with the firm Crawford, Murphy, & Tilly, Inc. Kyle is currently working on the O’Hare Runway 9C-27C team with other engineers. Kyle spoke our students about how he shares his faith through his job.

Mrs. Jennifer Groce, the Director of Community Affairs at Northern Illinois University, and Mrs. Roberta Jean Geosling, a Graduate Teaching Assistant pursuing her doctorate at NIU, talked to the students about hard work in itself being a testimony, along with how they share their personal testimonies with co-workers.

Pastor Jeff Knitt, who is the Senior Pastor of Crossview Church in Sycamore and has also worked as a Chemical Engineer, taught the students about the theology of work, giving them a Biblical perspective of faith and work.

Teachers and students collaborated throughout the morning during breakout sessions where they dug deeper into the ideas that were presented. Cornerstone is grateful to these Christian professionals who spent time teaching and impacting our students during this year’s Center for Career Advancement event.
