Ms. Johnson became a part of the Cornerstone family over 15 years ago when she enrolled her son, Thomas, a 2013 graduate of CCA, in kindergarten. In the fall of 2003, she became Cornerstone’s beloved kindergarten teacher and taught that class for seven years, claiming to have secured the best job in the world. God has blessed Ms. Johnson with the vision to see with clarity the miracle in every child.

Following God’s calling to serve His special children and inspired by her own daughter with exceptional needs, Ms. Johnson attained her Master’s in Special Education from NIU and subsequently founded the Resource Center at Cornerstone. In partnership with Mrs. Bartlett, Resource Teacher, these ladies are passionate about student success and equipped with a plethora of interventions to ensure that student success is not an option, but a requirement!

Ms. Johnson also serves as Center Director at Mathnasium of DeKalb County, and she is also on staff at Northern Illinois University, where she inspires the future generation of special education educators.

An award-winning teacher, Ms. Johnson says she is most importantly a blessed child of the One True King! Cornerstone Christian Academy is very grateful to have Mrs. Johnson serve our students.

Favorite Subject to Teach

My favorite subject to teach is Math; I’m gifted at Making Math Make Sense, the MATHNASIUM WAY, A+!

Dream Vacation Destination

My dream vacation will be in October 2017, when I turn 50, on the most southern beach of the continental United States, Key West, FL!


I have the most awesome dog in the world! His name is Rylie, he knows sign language, he has yet to bark in ten years, and he can flip a treat off his nose into the air and catch it! Also noteworthy, Mrs. Wright is afraid of him because he is so huge!

How I want to be remembered

I want to be remembered as the teacher who could stand on her head and clap her feet together when the situation called for it!

One thing I want my students to never forget

My unceasing hope for all God’s precious children is that they genuinely know the depth, breadth, and length of His love for them and His plan to prosper them and never to harm them! His Love endures forever!

Would you rather go to a play, musical, or movie?

I enjoy spending most of my time outdoors when the weather is nice. If it is raining or cold I like snuggling under mounds of blankets with our dog watching movies. I like all different types of movies but my favorites are older classical movies like the Phantom of the Opera.

Favorite Vegetable

I absolutely love peas and green beans. As strange as it sounds, I love to dip them in butter and eat them. I also like most other vegetables and fruits. Next year I hope to have a garden in which to grow my own veggies and fruits.

Would you rather travel by plane, train, or automobile?

I love to travel! It is my dream to travel the world one day when I retire. This past summer we traveled to visit friends and family on small vacations and spend most of our time driving, but I love flying.


Yes! We have a few cats that have tons of energy. We also have a crazy-silly Boston terrier named Screech. Screech enjoys spending most of his time sleeping and eating mozzarella cheese (we have learned that the cheese is a great motivational tool to get him to listen and do what we ask).

Favorite Bible Verse

Yes! One of my favorites is Romans 8:28. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This verse always inspires me.

I would much rather go to the theater. I am a fan of many musicals, plays, and ballets. Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical.

Dream Vacation Destination

My dream is to someday research my roots in Ireland and Scotland.


I have two dogs, Cubbie and Mini. Cubbie is a Jack Russell and Fox Terrier mix named after our favorite baseball team. Mini is a Toy Fox Terrier. Mini is about five pounds and that is as big as she will get.

That is a toss-up between Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre.
