Dream Vacation Destination

Anywhere is fine with me as long as I have my wife and kids by my side!

Favorite Vegetable

Is coffee a vegetable?

Would you rather travel by plane, train, or automobile?

Favorite Book

Great by Choice by Jim Collins.

Over the summer, I like to…

I like a day in the backyard with my family. A blow up pool, a comfortable chair, chips and salsa and kids running everywhere. Perfect!

Mark Hilde, Treasurer

About Us 5 Mark Hilde

Mark grew up in rural Minnesota as a pastor’s kid with his four siblings. He went to Wheaton College where he met his wife Sarah. Mark and Sarah eventually settled down in Sycamore, where they have enjoyed raising their four children, three of them currently attending CCA. He has served on CCA’s board since January 2013.
Mark has been a financial advisor with Edward Jones since 2005, and his office is in downtown Sycamore. He is active in the community through church, boards, and service organizations. He is thankful that Sarah stays home full-time raising their children.

As you can imagine, Mark stays busy with four kids and all of their activities. As a family, they enjoy getting away to Door County to spend time with relatives. Mark also likes to read about current events, get together with other families, play tennis with his wife, and golf.

Dream Vacation Destination

I like to research vacations, so there are several on the list! I was in geography bees as a student so that gave me an early love of exploring the world.

Would you rather go to a play, musical, or movie?

I would rather go to a musical, and I look forward to taking my children to some of the Disney musicals as they get older.

Would you rather travel by plane, train, or automobile?

I would prefer to travel by plane when traveling long distances as a family. If it’s just myself or only with Sarah, then I don’t mind a long drive.

Over the summer, I like to…

My favorite thing to do in the summer is to get away for a long weekend in Door County.

How old were you when you gave your life to Christ?

I gave my life to Christ while at Bible camp the summer after seventh grade. I had grown up as a good pastor’s kid, but didn’t fully grasp what it meant to have a personal relationship with Christ until that moment.

Dream Vacation Destination

I would say my dream vacation destination would be anywhere that’s warm with a beach, beautiful landscape, infinity pool, free food, someone to wait on me hand and foot, and costs under $100.

Favorite Vegetable

Believe it or not, my favorite vegetable is cauliflower. I love it with cheese sauce or just loaded with salt and butter! Or, if I want to be really healthy, I just eat it straight from the fridge.

Would you rather travel by plane, train, or automobile?

There’s no doubt that I am getting to the age where it’s a nuisance to drive a long distance so give me an airplane any day.

I have two dogs: a Chihuahua and a Yellow Lab – both rescue pets. I also have two Cockatiels and two horses. The horses are actually my daughter’s but I claim them since I pay for them.

Favorite Bible Verse

Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” This verse has gotten me through a lot of tough times in life. It is a reminder that we should stay calm and have faith that God will work everything out. This is what I call my “faith in the middle” verse – God will get me through those valleys of life.

Douglas Klumpp, Board Member

Douglas Klumpp grew up in the Chicago suburb of Buffalo Grove. He attended college at the University of Oklahoma and Iowa State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the field of chemistry. He was also a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Southern California, carrying out research related to petroleum chemistry. He is currently a Presidential Research Professor and Professor of Chemistry at Northern Illinois University where he teaches courses in organic chemistry. Professor Klumpp has been a committed Christian for more than 30 years. Over the years, he has worked in church nurseries, taught children and adult Sunday school classes, delivered morning sermons, and removed hornet nests from the side of a church building. He and his wife have been married 20 years, being blessed with three children, all of whom have attended CCA.

Dream Vacation Destination

I suppose I have two dream vacations:  First, I have always wanted to stay at one of those resorts in the south Pacific Oceans where you have a bamboo hut built over the warm waters of a lagoon. Second, I have always wanted to visit Israel. I would love to see the archeological sites, fish on the Sea of Galilee, visit their cities, visit the Dead Sea, and soak in the Mediterranean Sea.

Favorite Vegetable

I love fresh carrots – harvested only minutes earlier.

We have two rescue dogs. When we got one as a puppy, the individual at the pet rescue center referred to her as the “redneck dog.” This is because the man who dropped her off at the shelter drove a rusty pick-up truck. If you scratch her back, her whole body will shiver. The other dog is a pedigree, a German wire-haired pointer.  A senior citizen needed to give him up, so we adopted him.  Initially, he drove us crazy. He would escape at every opportunity, run through our neighborhood, jump in the pond, and come home wet and muddy. Now he is a sweetheart and never tries to escape.

favorite book

The Bible.

how i want to be remembered

In Matthew 25, Jesus tells the story of three servants. With two of the servants, He says, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” As Christians, I think this should be our goal. And I hope this is how I am remembered.
