About Us

Our Administration

Kevin White, Interim Administrator

My favorite thing about working at CCA

Embracing the opportunity we have today to make a Christ-centered investment in our children.

Favorite Book

Too many to mention, but a few at the top of my list: Desiring God (Piper), Mission Drift (Greer), How the Mighty Fall (Collins), Primal Leadership (Goleman), StrengthsFinder 2.0 (Rath)

Year I Began at CCA

I started serving on the board at Cornerstone in 2015; served as a consultant starting in October 2016 and have recently been given the honor of leading our amazing team as we search for the next full-time administrator.

One thing I want my students to never forget

Every person is wired and gifted by God with a unique and powerful purpose. Living that purpose is God’s gift to us and our gift to the world.

Mr. Drew Whitfield, Secondary Principal

About Us 7 Drew Whitfield

Favorite Subject to Teach

My favorite subject to teach is Bible because of the spiritual growth and the effect it has on the students, families, staff and community.

Dream Vacation Destination

It would be Heaven and if that is not possible now then going to the outdoors in a remote wilderness area. Africa is also a nice idea.

Favorite Vegetable

Peas, cauliflower, cabbage, or carrots.

Favorite Book

The Bible, but I also like Christian autobiographies that are true but might be written with false names and locations in order to protect the author.

If I could time travel, I would travel to…

Sometime during the frontier days of the Wild West, maybe even trying to be a mountain man living off the land.

Favorite Book

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Year I Began at CCA

I started at Cornerstone in 1997.

How I want to be remembered

I always tried to do my best in everything I did.

Favorite Bible Verse

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

One thing I want my students to never forget

God loves them unconditionally. Treat others as you would want to be treated…with love and respect.

Favorite Vegetable

I love fresh vegetables from my garden, but two of my favorites are butternut squash and fresh, pickled beets.

Favorite Book

I love good “how to” books that teach me how to do new things.

Over the summer I like to…

I enjoy spending time in my flower gardens, biking, refinishing furniture, and baking Swedish Rye Bread with my husband, Tim.

Year I began at CCA

I began at CCA in 2004.

Favorite Bible Verse

As my relationship with Christ has grown, I have realized the truth and assurance of Proverbs 3:5-6, ““Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your steps.”

Denise Thirtle, Afternoon Receptionist

About Us 9 Denise Thirtle

My favorite thing about working at CCA

I enjoy working at Cornerstone because it is an opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of Christian adults who love and fear the Lord and who value the children the Lord has entrusted to us. We share a common goal of raising up children of Godly character who will further God’s kingdom now and in the future.

Would you rather go to a play, musical, or movie?

I would rather go see a play because it seems that something real and spontaneous always happens. Someone goofs or changes a line or scene and the others have to react to it. They lose composure or laugh and roll with it. It’s fun.

Dream Vacation Destination

My dream vacation would be a tour by train across countries in Europe. It gives you a perspective of connection and interplay of cultures. Getting on a plane and arriving somewhere is convenient but it “tells no story.”

Pets

We have a small zoo at my house. At our fullest zoo yet we have two dogs, three cats, two guinea pigs, and a fish tank.

Over the summer I like to…

I love to spend time with my kids playing in the pool or working in the yard. I also enjoy spending time visiting with family and friends. Summer is definitely a time to slow down and reconnect with all things treasured.

Tammy Watson, R.N., Nurse

About Us 10 Tammy Watson

My favorite thing about working at CCA

It is a privilege serving the Lord at CCA. It is a blessing to see the students grow in the knowledge and likeness of our Lord Jesus Christ. I just feel the love of Christ at Cornerstone and I believe the students do as well.

Dream Vacation Destination

Our family has not been on vacation in 20 years because we own and take care of livestock (cattle). Why not dream big = Hawaii!

Over the summer I like to…

Enjoy God’s beautiful creation on country hikes and bike rides. I love to mow the lawn. I could mow several times per week just because I like to! I spend a lot of time at the pool with my daughter Grace who is in primary school at CCA.

How I want to be remembered

As someone who joyfully served the Lord, and as someone who was greatly aware of God’s grace, mercy, and love.

Favorite Bible Verse

Isaiah 40:8, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

God renews my mind through His word.

John Matheson, Finance Manager and Human Resources Director

About Us 13 John Matheson

My favorite thing about working at CCA

Getting to meet new people who are excited about CCA as a place for their children.

Favorite Vegetable

There is nothing like the teeth jarring munch of corn on the cob. Yum!

Would you rather travel by plane, train, or automobile?

When traveling as a family long distances in a car you can build relationships with your spouse and children, so when my children were young we enjoyed going on vacation together in the car.

When I gave my life to Christ

I was just 5 years of age when I asked my mother about knowing Jesus in a personal way. A playmate had said that he got saved and I wanted to know what that meant.

Favorite Bible Verse

Luke 19:10 my first memory verse, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”(ESV)

James 4:8a my life verse, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (ESV)

DREAM VACATION DESTINATION

Pretty much anywhere warm, and I would be happy! I want to do a tour of Italy, Spain, and Greece someday. I love history, architecture, and amazing food – those places definitely have all three!

Favorite Vegetable

Mushrooms! Sliced on a salad, sauteed in a dish, or battered and deep fried, they’re always delicious.

OVER THE SUMMER I LIKE TO . . .

I absolutely love summer because of the warm weather. I enjoy spending time with my family, going to baseball games, hikes, vacations, working out, you name it! I also love that I can run outside without risking frostbite!

FAVORITE BIBLE VERSE

Philippians 3:13-14 “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

One thing I want my students to never forget

God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called and what He ordains for your life, He will sustain.
