About Us 1 Tom Olmstead

My favorite thing about working at CCA

My favorite moments always involve seeing our Lord getting involved either in the life of a student or to bring about a solution to a challenge.

Pets

Copper, our dog who is assembled in a disproportionate way because he is half Jack Russell Terrier and half Shar-Pei. We find him loveable and cute!

Favorite Book

Pilgrim’s Progress, after the Bible of course! Full of inspiration about seeking first God’s Kingdom and not losing sight of the greatest treasure.

Year I Began at CCA

I started at Cornerstone in 1996, seeing God at work for so many years at our school has been a tremendous blessing!

One thing I want my students to never forget

God loves them with a matchless love, He deserves a whole hearted response!

Mr. Drew Whitfield, Secondary Principal

About Us 7 Drew Whitfield

Favorite Subject to Teach

My favorite subject to teach is Bible because of the spiritual growth and the effect it has on the students, families, staff and community.

Dream Vacation Destination

It would be Heaven and if that is not possible now then going to the outdoors in a remote wilderness area. Africa is also a nice idea.

Favorite Vegetable

Peas, cauliflower, cabbage, or carrots.

Favorite Book

The Bible, but I also like Christian autobiographies that are true but might be written with false names and locations in order to protect the author.

If I could time travel, I would travel to…

Sometime during the frontier days of the Wild West, maybe even trying to be a mountain man living off the land.

Debbie Dwyer, Preschool Director

Favorite Book

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

Year I Began at CCA

I started at Cornerstone in 1997.

How I want to be remembered

I always tried to do my best in everything I did.

Favorite Bible Verse

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

One thing I want my students to never forget

God loves them unconditionally. Treat others as you would want to be treated…with love and respect.

Favorite Vegetable

I love fresh vegetables from my garden, but two of my favorites are butternut squash and fresh, pickled beets.

Favorite Book

I love good “how to” books that teach me how to do new things.

Over the summer I like to…

I enjoy spending time in my flower gardens, biking, refinishing furniture, and baking Swedish Rye Bread with my husband, Tim.

Year I began at CCA

I began at CCA in 2004.

Favorite Bible Verse

As my relationship with Christ has grown, I have realized the truth and assurance of Proverbs 3:5-6, ““Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your steps.”

Denise Thirtle, Afternoon Receptionist

About Us 9 Denise Thirtle

My favorite thing about working at CCA

I enjoy working at Cornerstone because it is an opportunity to enjoy the fellowship of Christian adults who love and fear the Lord and who value the children the Lord has entrusted to us. We share a common goal of raising up children of Godly character who will further God’s kingdom now and in the future.

Would you rather go to a play, musical, or movie?

I would rather go see a play because it seems that something real and spontaneous always happens. Someone goofs or changes a line or scene and the others have to react to it. They lose composure or laugh and roll with it. It’s fun.

Dream Vacation Destination

My dream vacation would be a tour by train across countries in Europe. It gives you a perspective of connection and interplay of cultures. Getting on a plane and arriving somewhere is convenient but it “tells no story.”

Pets

We have a small zoo at my house. At our fullest zoo yet we have two dogs, three cats, two guinea pigs, and a fish tank.

Over the summer I like to…

I love to spend time with my kids playing in the pool or working in the yard. I also enjoy spending time visiting with family and friends. Summer is definitely a time to slow down and reconnect with all things treasured.

Tammy Watson, Nurse, R. N.

About Us 10 Tammy Watson

My favorite thing about working at CCA

It is a privilege serving the Lord at CCA. It is a blessing to see the students grow in the knowledge and likeness of our Lord Jesus Christ. I just feel the love of Christ at Cornerstone and I believe the students do as well.

Dream Vacation Destination

Our family has not been on vacation in 20 years because we own and take care of livestock (cattle). Why not dream big = Hawaii!

Over the summer I like to…

Enjoy God’s beautiful creation on country hikes and bike rides. I love to mow the lawn. I could mow several times per week just because I like to! I spend a lot of time at the pool with my daughter Grace who is in primary school at CCA.

How I want to be remembered

As someone who joyfully served the Lord, and as someone who was greatly aware of God’s grace, mercy, and love.

Favorite Bible Verse

Isaiah 40:8, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

God renews my mind through His word.

Stacey Gorbold, Events & Development

My favorite thing about working at CCA

I love all of the incredible friendships I have made throughout all these years. The staff here all love the Lord so much and that is an awesome foundation for all great friendships.

Favorite Vegetable

I think my favorite vegetable would be roasted cauliflower.

Pets

I have a pet tarantula named Buffy who lives in Mrs. Cantrell’s preschool classroom. I show Buffy to the preschool students once a year and let them touch this furry spider.

Year I began at CCA

I started at Cornerstone in 2006 as a substitute teacher. Since then, I have been a preschool aide, a coach, and now I work with the development office.

When I gave my life to Christ

I was young (about eight years old) when I acknowledged that I needed Jesus. However, my actual heart conversion was not until I was about 19; when I met my husband.

John Matheson, Finance Manager and Human Resources Director

About Us 13 John Matheson

My favorite thing about working at CCA

Getting to meet new people who are excited about CCA as a place for their children.

Favorite Vegetable

There is nothing like the teeth jarring munch of corn on the cob. Yum!

Would you rather travel by plane, train, or automobile?

When traveling as a family long distances in a car you can build relationships with your spouse and children, so when my children were young we enjoyed going on vacation together in the car.

When I gave my life to Christ

I was just 5 years of age when I asked my mother about knowing Jesus in a personal way. A playmate had said that he got saved and I wanted to know what that meant.

Favorite Bible Verse

Luke 19:10 my first memory verse, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”(ESV)

James 4:8a my life verse, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (ESV)

My favorite thing about working at CCA is the people! The families, my co-workers, and these precious students!!

Would you rather go to a play, musical, or movie?

I would rather go to a musical—it feels so special to be at the theatre and to see a live action performance. I also appreciate the opportunity to dress up!

Would you rather travel by plane, train, or automobile?

I would rather travel by plane, because I like being high up in the air above all the worries and the cares that are down on the ground.

Favorite Book

I would have to say all the books in the Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis were my favorite when I was kid and they still are today.

How I want to be remembered

I want to be remembered as a Godly woman who loved her family, and who encouraged others to look to Christ.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT TEACHING

My favorite thing about teaching is seeing the spark in a student’s eye when they first understand a new concept. It’s priceless to me to see a student recognize a concept that they may have not understood before.

I really like artichokes with a side of mayonnaise to dip them in.

OVER THE SUMMER I LIKE TO…

Over the summer I like to spend time hiking, camping, playing disc golf, and playing any pick-up sport such as volleyball, ultimate frisbee, and softball.

HOW LONG I’VE BEEN TEACHING

I have been teaching high school aged students for six years.

FAVORITE BIBLE VERSE

Romans 8:28-29 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those  who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be  conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”  This passage gives us a view of God’s character (He is good) and that we can take hold of His promise. Also it  tells us as believers in Jesus Christ, how and why we were called.
