Posted on: March 11th, 2016 by Admin

Congratulations to Cornerstone’s high school WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) team for their 1st place win at the 2016 regional academic challenge competition. At this year’s sectional WYSE competition at Northern Illinois University, junior Ryan Hudson took 2nd place in the category of Engineering Graphics and junior Eric Zhang took 3rd place in the category of Physics and Math. Both students are advancing to the state competition at the University of Illinois-Champaign in April!

Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering is an international program headquartered at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. WYSE offers the annual Academic Challenge competition, a summer camp, and other programs. The goal of WYSE is to attract a greater number of talented and diverse students to careers in engineering and the sciences.

The Academic Challenge is a competitive series of tests created and administered by WYSE and offered to high school students in Illinois and Missouri. The tests are now administered by more than fifty community colleges and universities and are designed to present a challenge to the brightest high school students.

Test material is drawn from senior high school and freshman level college curricula. Written by teams of college and university faculty, subjects include biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, mathematics, and physics. Each test production team produces three tests of increasing levels of difficulty for regional, sectional, and state finals. Students compete as individuals and as part of a team, and they have forty minutes to complete multiple-choice tests that range in length from thirty questions (Computer Science) to one hundred questions (English).

Happy 40th Birthday Cornerstone Christian Academy!

Posted on: March 7th, 2016 by Admin

Cornerstone is celebrating our 40th birthday this year since our school began in 1976!  Our all school assembly on February 29, 2016 was a blast celebrating 40 years of God’s purpose and faithfulness!

The assembly included stories from Mr. Tom Olmstead, our Administrator, as he reminisced over his 20 years at Cornerstone.  CCA cheerleaders performed stunts and a dance routine, our beloved art teacher, Miss Sarah Mikan, shared about her school career from Kindergarten through 12th grade at Cornerstone, and the finale included an exciting game of egg roulette between Mr. Olmstead and our junior high and high school principal Mr. Drew Whitfield!  The assembly ended with our preschool students leading the entire school body singing happy birthday to Cornerstone!  Then we all enjoyed delicious cupcakes baked by Cornerstone families!

Check out this exciting video of Mr. Olmstead and Mr. Whitfield as they faced each other in the egg roulette challenge:

Cornerstone Christian Academy began in January of 1976 when Walter and Ruthanna Rodatz fulfilled a dream of opening a Christian school by first starting a humble preschool program with an initial enrollment of only six students.  In the fall of the next year, the inaugural kindergarten class was offered.

Cornerstone has grown to include preschool through high school and we celebrate all the amazing things that God has done at our school over the past 40 years!  We look forward to many more years of His faithfulness at Cornerstone Christian Academy!
